About us

Samudayik Sarathi, a distinguished national non-governmental organization (NGO), has been a beacon of change since its inception in 2007. With a steadfast commitment to democracy, governance, and social justice, Sarathi employs a rights-based approach to catalyze positive transformations in society.

At its core, Sarathi is driven by three overarching goals: fostering citizens’ active participation, advocating for gender and social equality, and championing the principles of good governance. These pillars form the foundation of Sarathi’s endeavors, guiding its strategic priorities and initiatives.

One of Sarathi’s key strategic focuses lies in institutionalizing fundamental rights, advancing the implementation of federalism, empowering women, and enhancing public accountability. Through meticulous efforts, Sarathi has achieved significant milestones, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of social change.

With an impressive track record, Sarathi has orchestrated 141 Youth Focus Constitutional Dialogues across 45 towns, facilitating meaningful discussions and contributing public opinions to various thematic committees in the Constituent Assembly. Additionally, the organization has conducted 855 Youth and Women Focus Legislative Town Hall Meetings across 66 districts, engaging with over 43,210 marginalized individuals. These engagements have led to tangible outcomes, influencing legislative changes and policy reforms in critical areas such as sexual harassment, labor rights, witchcraft crimes, social security, truth and reconciliation, and enforced disappearances etc.

Sarathi’s impactful campaigns, including the advocacy for the “No Vote Option,” have exerted substantial pressure, resulting in significant reforms mandated by the Supreme Court. Moreover, the organization’s innovative approaches, such as Intergenerational Dialogues, have amplified the voices of the marginalized, driving initiatives like menstrual hygiene and the provision of free sanitary pads for adolescent girls in almost local governments.

Through collaborative efforts, Sarathi has played a pivotal role in shaping local governance, contributing to the formulation and passage of critical acts, policies, and guidelines. From the establishment of gender training models in flood-prone areas to the enactment of progressive legislation on governance, land management, alcohol control, grievance handling, and biodiversity conservation, Sarathi’s impact resonates across various spheres of societal development.

In essence, Samudayik Sarathi stands as a testament to the power of grassroots activism and collective action, forging pathways towards a more equitable and just society for all.

Our History

Our story began with a simple yet powerful dream—to bring hope and opportunities to those who had been left behind. A small group of passionate individuals came together, united by a shared belief that change is possible when people act with compassion and determination. In the early days, we worked closely with communities at the grassroots level, listening to their struggles and finding practical ways to support them. Every small initiative, from providing basic educational materials to offering a helping hand in times of crisis, laid the foundation for the organization we are today.

As the years passed, our efforts expanded and so did our vision. We realized that real change required long-term commitment and a holistic approach. Beyond education, we began addressing issues like health, women’s empowerment, youth engagement, and social inclusion. Our projects gradually evolved into sustainable programs that not only met immediate needs but also created lasting impact. Each milestone in our journey became a stepping stone, strengthening our resolve to serve more communities and reach those who needed us the most.

Collaboration has always been a key part of our history. By building partnerships with local leaders, government institutions, and other like-minded organizations, we were able to broaden our reach and multiply our impact. Together, we launched campaigns, organized training sessions, and created safe spaces for children, women, and marginalized groups. These partnerships helped us grow from a small volunteer-driven initiative into a recognized organization with the ability to influence change at both local and national levels.

Today, our history is not just about how far we have come, but about the countless lives that have been touched along the way. Every child who received an education, every woman who gained confidence, and every community that found hope is part of our story.

Youth, Women and children

Our programs are specifically designed to empower and support youth, women, and children, who form the cornerstone of sustainable social development.

  • Youth: We engage young people through educational initiatives, skill development programs, and leadership opportunities, enabling them to actively participate in shaping their communities and contributing positively to society.
  • Women: Our interventions focus on promoting gender equality, women’s empowerment, and access to resources and decision-making platforms. We provide training, mentorship, and advocacy to strengthen women’s social, economic, and political participation.
  • Children: Protecting and nurturing children is central to our mission. We work to ensure access to quality education, healthcare, and safe environments, while promoting their rights, well-being, and holistic development.
Dalits, Indigenious and other socially excluded ethnic and minority groups

Dalits, Indigenious and other socially excluded ethnic and minority groups

Our work places a strong focus on the inclusion and empowerment of Dalits, Indigenous peoples, and other socially excluded ethnic and minority groups who continue to face systemic barriers, discrimination, and limited access to opportunities.

  • Dalits: Often subjected to caste-based exclusion and marginalization, Dalit communities face challenges in education, employment, and social participation. We work to break these barriers by promoting dignity, equity, and access to justice.
  • Indigenous Peoples: Indigenous communities are rich in culture, heritage, and knowledge, yet are frequently deprived of their rights and resources. We advocate for the protection of their land, language, and traditions while creating pathways for their active participation in governance and development.
  • Other Ethnic and Minority Groups: Many minority groups remain socially and economically excluded, with limited representation in decision-making processes. Our programs focus on fostering inclusion, ensuring equal opportunities, and addressing their unique challenges through dialogue, advocacy, and community-driven initiatives.
